DUBLIN, Ireland: Ireland lifted nearly all Covid restrictions on January 22.
"I have stood here on many dark days, but today is a good day," Taoiseach Micheal Martin said during a televised address.
In his speech, Martin acknowledged the difficulties Ireland has suffered through since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2022. "People know that Government will not impose restrictions on personal freedoms for any longer than is necessary."
The wearing of masks will continue, though, including in schools and on public transportation.
As of January 22, any number of people can gather in homes; early closing times will end at bars and restaurants; there will no longer be capacity restrictions at outdoor events; no capacity restrictions will be required for weddings; restrictions will be removed from nightclubs.
Of note, workers will begin returning to offices throughout Ireland.
It will still be required for travelers to present a Covid pass for international travel. Of note, rules for wearing masks will be reviewed at the end of February.
Sports events can immediately operate at full capacity, with each event making its own decisions on how to move forward.
Under the new rules, the public will continue to be required to isolate if they are ill with Covid-19.
