DUBLIN, Ireland: Convicted transgender prisoner "Barbie Kardashian," described in court as posing a "significant threat" to the public, is set to be released from prison in the coming days.

Kardashian, in her mid-20s, was serving a sentence at Limerick Prison after being found guilty by a jury of making threats to torture, rape, and murder. She has agreed to comply with a two-year post-release supervision order imposed by Limerick Circuit Court. Sources close to the case confirmed that her release was "imminent."

The Irish Prison Service declined to comment on individual prisoner cases.

Born Gabriel Alejandro Gentile, Kardashian later changed her name by deed poll and now identifies as female. She has served two years and six months of a five-and-a-half-year sentence, with the final year suspended.

During Kardashian's trial in March 2023, Detective Garda Niall Fitzgerald of Roxboro Road station told the court that Gardaí held "grave concerns" regarding her willingness to carry out her threats. He testified that she posed not only a danger to the intended victim—her mother—but also "a significant threat to the wider public."

The court heard that Kardashian, who has not undergone gender-affirming surgery, has been formally recognised as female by the Department of Social Protection. Diagnosed with multiple personality disorders, she has a long history in State care, having been placed there at the age of twelve under a High Court Special Care Order.

The threats that led to her conviction were made in 2020 while she was resident at Coovagh House, a secure youth facility in Limerick. Staff at the centre reported that Kardashian had described in disturbing detail her plan to travel to her mother's home, overpower her, torture her with boiling water, rape her with a screwdriver, and assault her until she "bled out." Staff were also shown handwritten notes in which she expressed her compulsion to rape and kill, apparently linked to her own experiences of childhood trauma.

Judge Tom O'Donnell, now retired, described the case as "one of the most complex" of his career. He noted Kardashian's complete lack of remorse and her "high level of venom" towards the victim. A probation report raised "major concerns," concluding that Kardashian remained unrepentant and posed a high risk of committing serious offences.

Five psychiatrists who assessed her agreed there was a "real danger" she might attempt to act on her violent fantasies. The probation service also highlighted her narcissistic traits and need for attention.

Kardashian has 15 prior convictions, mostly for violent offences, including a sexual assault committed at age 13. Judge O'Donnell warned that any failure to comply with probation services or any attempt to contact her parents could see the suspended portion of her sentence reactivated.
